Country music became popular in the 1940’s. When you think of country music, you think of Taylor Swift and the people from Texas. But that’s not all the genre is– Country music is derived from instruments like the acoustic guitar, mandolin, the harp, and the banjo. It came from the Southern U.S. in the 1920’s. Country pop, like Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood, began in the 1960’s. Country music used to be called “Western music”, and used to be based around musicians dressed as “hillbillies”, or “cowboys”
